Metcalfes
was established in October 1989 and commenced practice from
offices in Bolton Street, Bury. The firm effectively
grew from a well respected family accountancy practice in
Bury called JA Crawshaw & Co, which had been taken over
by KPMG in 1987. Due to the large firms procedures
and costs being imposed on clients, most of whom were only
small businesses, it was agreed that these would be better
served by a small firm and J Metcalfe & Co was set up
to achieve this.
The
practice expanded quickly and attracted a wide range of
new clients from small sole proprietors to reasonably sized
limited companies encompassing many different kinds of
business. The firm moved to larger offices in January
1998 in St Mary’s Place, Bury from where it currently
practises. The practice name was changed to Metcalfes
in 2004.
The
partners and staff have many years experience between them
dealing with numerous types of businesses and individuals
and have had both small and large firm training.
Whilst
the majority of businesses dealt with are locally based
in the Greater Manchester and Lancashire area the firm
has clients in other areas of the UK including North Wales,
Yorkshire and Buckinghamshire.
Metcalfes
